Midnight Madness travel team star Ejay Ofomata has signed a new professional contract for Libertas Sporting in Italy.
The versatile 5ft 11″ Forward has shown to more than hold her own in Europe where last season she led CAB Madeira in Portugal with solid numbers of 11.0 PPG & 4.9 RPG on 56% from the field. She led the team to one of their best seasons finishing 2nd in the League, Federation Cup Finalists as well as picking up Eurobasket Player of the Week.
We got a chance to catch up with Ejay and find out how she is feeling going into the upcoming season playing in Italy A2 League.
“Every year I get a new pro contract it always reminds me of the first year I started where I get the same feeling of gratitude and excitement all in one. I’m just really excited to experience another adventure with my new team this coming season.”
“My main goal this season is simply to grow, as a person and as an athlete both on and off the court. I hope to challenge and push myself so that when I look back at the season, I can honestly say that I gave my best everyday in practice and that I played my hardest in every game”
Ofomata highlights the importance of having more UK players playing overseas professionally.
“It’s important that more UK players sign professional contracts because I believe that we have earned the right to do so. These professional contracts will not only show that we have the talent but also that we are respected as worthy contenders in the basketball community around the world. These contracts will also show the younger generation that there is something to strive towards if that is what they want in life.”
“Special thanks to the man above, God for always looking out for me and always blessing me even when I don’t deserve it. My family has been there for me, loving and supporting me all the way and I want to thank my parents and older siblings. For all my friends and wider family (church, basketball, university, work, etc) thank you for always encouraging me and checking up on me while I am away during the season. Special shoutout to my cousin Chinny Nwagbo thanks for always pushing me everyday to be better than I was yesterday. To my little brother Louis Annan, thanks for working me out every summer and helping me stay in shape to get ready for the season. To my Midnight Madness family, thank you very much for everything.”
We want to wish Ejay all the best for the upcoming season where we have no doubt she will continue to represent herself and UK basketball to the fullest.
